Purr-Stitch: quilting stash

Stento a crederci ma le foto più vecchie relative ai libri risalgono a marzo, sono veramente scandalosa! Da quale cominciare? Sono davvero tante... Vabbè, cercherò di fare una suddivisione per tematiche: libri di narrativa e libri creativi, partiamo da questi ultimi.
Nella prima foto Sweet Nursery Chic, di Susan Cousineau: bellissimo, ricco di progetti deliziosi, consigliato; il secondo, The International School of Sugarcraft book 1, è di decorazione e cucina mentre il terzo è di stitchery, dall'autrice di Bareroots, Quilt a Gift: progetti carini, alcuni molto, altri meno.
Stavo pensando... spesso acquisto alla cieca questi libri creativi perché è difficile avere un'idea chiara del contenuto effettivo del libro, per capire se incontra davvero il nostro interesse oppure non fa per noi. Vi interesserebbero dei blog tour sui libri che acquisto, con una piccola galleria fotografica dei migliori progetti presenti nel libro ed una recensione personale del libro?

I can hardly believe it but the older photos on the books are dated March 2010, shame on me! From where I can start? There are so many ... Oh well, I will proceed by subjects: books of fiction and creative books, let's start with the last named.
In the first picture Sweet Nursery Chic, by Susan Cousineau: beautiful, full of delightful projects, recommended!; the second one, The International School of Sugarcraft Book 1, is about decoration and kitchen while the third is a stitchery book by the author of Bareroots, Quilt a Gift: nice projects, fews very nice, others less.
I was thinking... often I blindly purchase these creative books because it is difficult to have a clear idea of the actual content of the book, to check if it really meets our interests or does not. Are you interested in blog tours about the books I buy, with a small photo gallery of the best projects included and a personal review of the book?

Sapevo invece cosa compravo con Crafting Tilda's Friends, che altri non è che la traduzione in inglese del libro Tildas Sommer; Button! Button! è stata una piacevole scoperta, anche se è più un libro da cui trarre spunti e ispirazione, mentre di Appliqué Outside the Lines avevo avuto modo di scoprire qualche pagina in anteprima, e poi le autrici mi sono ben note.
I knew what I was buying with Crafting Tilda's Friends, which is the English translation of the book Tildas Sommer; Button! Button! was a pleasant surprise, even if it is more an inspirational book from which draw ideas, while I have discovered a few pages in preview of Appliqué Outside the Lines, and also the authors are well known by me.

Di Oilcloth Inspirations non sapevo granché e difatti non ci sono progetti di mio interesse (lo trovate in vendita a metà prezzo qui); Pretty Little Mini Quilts è stata una delusione totale mentre ho molto apprezzato la gran parte dei progetti di Whip-up's Miniature Quilts, tra cui in particolare quello in copertina di Kellie Wulfsohn.
Of Oilcloth Inspirations I did not know much and in fact there are not interesting projects for me; Pretty Little Mini Quilts has been a total disappointment but I very much enjoyed most of the projects into Whip-up's Miniature Quilts, in particular the one on the cover which is by Kellie Wulfsohn.

Di Cotton Life #3 avevo potuto invece avere un'ampia panoramica sul loro blog, e in più sapevo conteneva un delizioso set di Patchwork Pottery, quindi sono andata sul sicuro ordinando direttamente da loro, che devo dire son stati gentilissimi e molto veloci, prenderò anche il numero successivo, che parimenti conterrà ben due progetti di Laurraine; la rivista Shabby Chic è una piacevole outsider.

Questi due li ho presi su Pomadour's Craft Cafe, un delizioso negozietto di ebay che tratta solo materiale giapponese e Megumi è sempre gentilissima e veloce ad inviare: Eraser stamp design collection è dedicato alla tecnica dello stamping handmade con la gomma incisa, mentre Anne of Green Gables Quilt Room è una vera chicca per chi, come me, ai suoi tempi si è letta tutti e sei i libri di Anna dai capelli rossi, delizioso!

Acquisto corposo in tutti i sensi, in questa foto: Doodle Stitching è una meravigliosa collezione di soggetti stitchery suddivisi per tematiche, realizzati da un'autrice che è sempre all'altezza, meglio anche del primo libro a mio avviso; The Natural Wedding Book l'ho preso un po' alla cieca e ancora non posso dirmi che mi convinca, però ci sono degli spunti interessanti per un matrimonio handmade; Around the Corner Crochet Borders non è stata una sorpresa invece, essendo evidente che è anch'essa una collezione di bordi realizzati all'uncinetto, e d'altronde conoscevo l'autrice dal precedente libro già in mio possesso; Cool Girls Quilt è pieno pieno di progetti deliziosi a quilting, bello.
Purchase remarkable in every sense, in this photo: Doodle Stitching is a wonderful collection of stitchery subjects divided by themes, created by an author who is always great, it is even better than the first book in my opinion; The Natural Wedding Book still doesn't convince me, but there are some interesting ideas for a handmade wedding; Around the Corner Crochet Borders was not a surprise, it is clear that is a collection of crocheted edges, and besides I knew the author from the previous book I've already own; Cool Girls Quilt is fullfilled of delightful quilting projects, beautiful.

Ultimo in ordine d'apparizione, d'acquisto e d'arrivo, Noël en fête è ciò che mi aspettavo dai libri precedenti sul cosiddetto "crafting scandinavo": ricco di idee e tecniche diverse e dolcissime, molto bello. Con questa foto mista il testimone passa alla sezione "libri di narrativa", per i quali trovate le mie recensioni, man mano che li leggo, nella mia libreria virtuale su aNobii.
Ho approfittato del 30% di sconto promozionale per lo sbarco di Amazon in Italia (e lo rifarò a brevissimo) prendendo il mattone Il quinto giorno di Frank Schätzing, di cui avevo già apprezzato Il diavolo nella cattedrale, e la continuazione delle avventure di Sherlock Holmes, di cui avevo letto il primo volume.
Last in order of appearance, of purchase and arrival, Noël en fête is what I expected from previous books on the so-called "Scandinavian crafting": full of ideas and techniques very sweet, it is really nice. With this mixed picture the baton passes to the "books of fiction". I have purchased The Swarm by Frank Schätzing, author I appreciated after Death and the Devil, and the second collection of Sherlock Holmes adventures.

Questi li ho letti tutti: Strega. Cronache dal mondo di Oz in rivolta è moolto particolare ed intrigante; Il mio caro Dexter è uno dei volumi su cui si basa il notorio telefilm (mitico!) e il mio giudizio su questo libro non può essere che di parte; anche da Il prezzo del sangue hanno tratto un telefilm ma i cinque libri sono scritti molto meglio, anche se non si può dire lo stesso della correzione di bozza italiana; infine, Il nipote del negus è uno dei romanzi storici di Andrea Camilleri, non il migliore a mio avviso ma comunque godibile e dissacrante.
I read them all: Wicked. The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West is very distinctive and intriguing; Dearly Devoted Dexter is one of the volumes on which the well-known TV series (great!) is based on and my opinion on this book isn't objective; even by Price Blood drew a TV show but the five books are written much better, even if I cannot say the same of the Italian proofreading; and finally, The Grandson of Negus is one of the historical novels of Andrea Camilleri, not the best in my opinion but enjoyable and irreverent.

About Camilleri, this order was almost entirely focused on his history novels, read all, apart from The King of Girgenti and the penultimate Montalbano, Treasure Hunting, currently reading. I am reading too the essay by Ekman with great interest.

Written by Camilleri and Lucarelli, I haven't enjoyed too much Water in the mouth, same for The Vampire's Seduction, which I have already exchanged; Joanne Harris's book is written as usual brilliantly but I found the story too dark and stuffy. I still don't read the other essay by Ekman.

Acquisti vari e scambi aNobiani di quest'estate: non ho ancora letto Le furie di Calderon né La spiaggia rubata né Marina, del cui autore ho invece già apprezzato moltissimo L'ombra del vento, che vi consiglio caldamente, così come La tredicesima storia, bellissimo. Ho letto invece l'intera di trilogia di Larsson, libri altrettando consigliati con l'unica avvertenza che il terzo va letto subito dopo il secondo, per non perdersi nelle miriadi di intrighi e nomi. Prova d'appello invece è debole e ho trovato il protagonista presuntuoso.
Purchases and exchanges during the past summer: I have not yet read Furies of Calderon nor The Stolen Beach nor Marina, the author of which I appreciated very much with The Shadow of the Wind, I strongly suggest that, as The Thirteenth Tale, beautiful! I have already read instead the entire trilogy of Larsson, recommended too with the only warning that the third volume should be read immediately after the second one, to not getting lost between the myriad of intrigues and names. Proof of Appeal is rather weak and I found the protagonist presumptuous.

Cominciamo con due acquisti "fatti di persona", seguiranno gli arrivi postali, in ordine rigorosamente non cronologico, a ruota le foto degli ultimi thread winder fatti da mio papà ed infine un po' di foto aggiornate della mia tribù felina. L'acquisto più grosso è stato il congelatore: la quantità dispensabile nel mio frigo combinato era un po' risicata, soprattutto nel periodo estivo, così ho approfittato di un'ottima offerta all'Ipercoop per prendere questo congelatore Candy 195E.

Ho perso quelli che avevo da quasi quindici (!) anni e sono andata dall'ottico per scegliere un paio di occhiali nuovi da vista. Alla fine ho preso quelli da sole (graduati) nuovi, mitici Ray Ban, e quelli da vista "bianchi" ancora non li scelgo.
